Spotted on I-10 in Santa Monica. Sorry for the poor image quality but this was taken using a little pocket camera in the fading light of a brilliant Saturday.

I must also apologize for the tardiness in updating this blog. We'll be doing an update to the software running this site so I'll be able to make it easier to do postings in the future and hopefully, that will give me the opportunity to do more timely postings.

Yup, looks like they have begun using the Freeway Blogger's tools against him.

The W that has shown up in various locations around Orange County, California have been made by tearing the W from "The War is a Lie" posters.

This particular one is off the I-5 freeway in San Juan Capistrano. Not too surprisingly, given the conservative nature of the OC, the W has stayed up longer than any of FB's postings.

Freeway Free Speech Day coming tomorrow!

"On Wednesday, Oct. 13th, activists across the country will be placing handpainted signs on freeways and major trafficways to express their first amendment right to free and unfettered political speech. So far there are over 650 of us signed in from 175 cities and 45 states, and by the 13th we'll number well over a thousand. The rules are simple: paint a sign and put it up where people will see it. If you use the freeway, I suggest using trees and infrastructure along the sides (approached from off the freeway, please) rather than overpasses. Signs placed off to the side may not be seen by as many per minute, but they stay up for days rather than hours. This event will be getting major national coverage, from Air America, MTV, Pacifica Radio and mainstream national and local news orgs, so there's a good chance overpasses will be watched.

Spotted on the FreewayBlogger.com website: Widowmaker... He told me the story, via email, on how he was posting blog/signs with a German reporter in tow when he placed this sign on a pedestrian overpass in San Clemente, CA. They drove by again a few minutes later and someone had already torn off the "idwomaker" portion leaving W's trademark. Within 10 minutes even the W was gone. Interesting to see how passionately people react to these postings. All part of the Freeway Blogger's plans no doubt.

Marie reports "I saw one of the "Nobody Died" stickers on an SUV last week at the Plainville Farms Restaurant in Cicero, NY, which is a suburb of Syracuse. I've seen plenty of other election-related stickers in the Syracuse area, but this was my first sighting of this one!"

I spotted a sign last night on I-5 northbound at Avery Parkway in Mission Viejo but didn't have a camera with me. When I came back later that night with a camera, it had already been torn down. And torn up it appears as well. As best as I can recall, it said "War President? My Pet Goat" or something to that effect.

An anonymous citizen sent us this sign spotted in the Los Angeles basin. The sign reads "I attacked America on 9/11 and all I got was away with it" -- Osama Bin Laden. What with the holiday weekend starting, I'm sure we are going to see quite a few more signs springing up. A source of mine indicates that the LA/OC area is gonna get heavily hit with protest signs on Tuesday, September 7th. With the 11th approaching, we may see signs swinging both ways. Another almost lost treasure. I spotted this bumper sticker taped inside a car in East Los Angeles that reads "Pinche Bush" where Pinche is written in a script very similar to that associated with various Hispanic grafitti artists.

For those of you who don't speak Mexican Spanish slang (as opposed to Castillian Spanish), it is not referring to South American tamarin (with a tufted head) nor is it the acronym for Policy Interpretation Network on Children's Health and Environment. I thought I'd lost this one. I spotted this large sticker (about 8.5x11) affixed to a fire hose box in the parking structure at USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. In case you can't read it all, it shows a caricature of W cradling a bomb and wondering "...Or was it hug babies and drop bombs?" Despite the best efforts of some W lover to remove it, this sticker persists in it's mute testimony.

It also has W's perversion of the purpose of having armed forces: "We need to use our global supremacy to protect our children" vs "We need to use our children to protect our global supremacy"

Annette writes that "I saw this in Tucson AZ on I-10 West".
I personally spotted some new ones yesterday. I the a.m. on my drive to John Wayne airport on the I-405, I spotted a new bumpersticker. This plain white missive contained the following thought: "Memo to Bush: YOU'RE FIRED". A few miles down the road I spotted someone with a "Re-defeat Bush" bumper sticker that was designed to look like the Bush-Cheney stickers; blue background with a flag on it. And then last night I spotted a "Bush Cheated" bumper sticker that also emulated the "official" Bush-Cheney sticker. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera with me so I've got no images to show. We are also working on a "Re-defeat Bush" sticker/shirt logo so look for those in the shop soon.

I came back from a weeklong trip to Europe on business yesterday and spotted these three signs within a mile or two of each other. Either our mysterious freeway blogger was busy overnight or these actually stayed up for more than just the day. Hard to believe in Orange County but who knows?

From Emily: I was in Spain earlier this month, and I took two anti-war/Bush pictures.
One was spraypainted on a wall in Grenada. It's of Bush as a vampire with a knife through his head and some Spanish around it.

This call for impeachment pulls no punches with a play on words about the animal that W is most commonly referred to. I nearly died laughing so hard when I saw it. This one, I'm sure, won't last long before the right-wingers get to it. I couldn't resist... Spotted in San Juan Capistrano, CA.

Driving down the freeway last Saturday I noticed that some of our local Republicans (this is Orange County after all) decided to get into the act. In an area known to be the stomping grounds of the local Freeway Blogger, they erected a sign, similar in look and feel to FB's work proclaiming "Bush 2004". Well, I guess this was just too easy a target to pass up, as this modification shows. Unfortunately, I don't have a before picture since it was raining on Saturday. I shot the modified version on Sunday morning. Spotted by MJG in San Juan Capistrano, CA off the I-5.

Sorry, just got around to posting these. The first image is of kind of Highway Blogging protest common on the big island of Hawaii. They postion white rocks/shells against the volcanic rock along the sides of the road to spell out messages. Usually it is declarations of love or rememberances of a loved one but in this case, the artist decided to take a more political stance, asking for Peace Now! The second came during my trip to Hawaii from an anonymous source and was spotted on a roadside in San Diego County, CA. Appears to be I-5.

It's baaackk.... "The War is a Lie" has returned to north San Juan Capistrano, much as the famed swallows do; only more frequently. This picture is actually from Thanksgiving Day (which I didn't get a chance to post) and only lasted a day. Let's hope this one lasts a little longer. Since this sign is on private property, I'm not sure if it is the property owners or angered right-wingers who have taken to pulling this one down as soon as it is posted.

It's been kind of quite on the mysterious poster's front. This morning on the way to work noticed these painted boards nailed up in a eucalyptus tree right off the freeway. At it's feet lied the remains of torn carboard sign (there wasn't enough of it there to make out what it said) that obviously angered someone. The protest continues... A new campaign to start off a new month. This time around the poster is hoping for a bit of work on the part of the viewers. The sign is a derivation of Horace's old lie. "Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori." is usually translated as "It is sweet and proper to die for one's country." The mysterious protestor has modified it to read "It is sweet and proper to die for Haliburton."; one of the major financial beneficiaries of the war in Iraq. Spotted on Oliver Willis' blog. This image has been spotted on numerous blogs, for and against W's duplicity. Just Google it... Now if I can only find out who this brave soul, who appears to have been moving this sign around since as early as July 15th, is... A little more digging has led me to believe the first WEB appearance of this sign was at Politics in the Zeros, a weblog that has "Musings on politics; California, water, and otherwise". The second sighting; apparently from the same individuals as the sign appeared identical to that spotted the previous week. This was strung in the middle of a broken section of the soundwall adjacent to the freeway lending an appropriate air of destruction. I was unable to get a picture of it since I didn't have a camera with me at the time. It was down by the time I drove past it with a camera later in the afternoon. Unknown if it was pulled down by offended Republicans, San Clemente sign enforcement officers or CalTrans officials. First Sighting!

This was the first spotting by MJG of this slogan. Printed on what a appeared to be a 4x4 foot white cardboard sign in bold black letters hanging from one of the palm trees on the off-ramp. This sign appeared and actually stayed up the longest that I've seen to date: 3 days. Unfortunately, I didn't think ahead and get a picture of it when I had the chance.
